The origin of the pouf

Few people imagine, but the origin of the pouf is noble; there are reports that link them to Ancient Egypt, where they served as support for kings and queens, and they quickly became a true fashion in the wealthiest houses of Classical Greece and India.

In fact, the pouf was used later, in the 18th century, in the Maghreb region. These were backless, low and very soft seats used by the wealthier class to have meals on the floor in a comfortable way, as they adapted to the body.

It was only in the 19th century that it appeared in European homes for the first time, as an item of comfort and decoration. At that time the Italians Piero Gatti, Cesare Paolini and Franco Teodoro deconstructed the famous classic seats and invented a new concept of a truly rebellious “Sack Chair”!

In the late 60s, during the hippie movement, it was common to see,  men with long hair and beards and women with braids,  in intense conversations. sitting on the large poufs…

Therefore, puffs have always been synonymous of comfort, and despite being somewhat forgotten today, they are clearly important pieces in modern decoration.

These versatile pillows have become so famous that today they are used as beach pillows and  in some cases they have even been associated with beach bags or as an outdoor accessory for gardens or swimming pools.
